Immigration Support Services
The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is an economic immigration program that enables the province to directly select and nominate prospective immigrants to help address BC’s priority labour market needs. This program provides a pathway to permanent residency.
Health Match BC is here to help. The Health Match BC Navigation team will support you as you navigate your application with BC PNP and obtain permanent resident status in Canada.
British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
The Health Authority stream of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) was created to facilitate the recruitment and retention of internationally educated health professionals. Through this stream, BC public health authorities can support prospective employees to apply for Permanent Resident (PR) status using BC PNP. Upon receiving a nomination under BC PNP, the candidate and their dependent family members are eligible to apply to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for PR status as a Provincial Nominee.
Once applicants have obtained eligibility to practice as a nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and have received an offer of permanent, full-time employment with a public health authority, the prospective employer initiates the immigration process. It is recommended that the applicant connect with Health Match BC before initiating their BC PNP Health Authority Category application. More information about the BC PNP is available here.
Under the Health Authority category of BC PNP, applicants may be eligible for either the Skills Immigration or Express Entry pathway.
In addition to meeting the general requirements, to qualify for one of the pathways of the Health Authority category of BC PNP, you must have:
- An offer of permanent, full-time employment as an RN, RPN, NP, or LPN with a public health employer or public health authority
- Meet the education, training, experience, and qualification requirements outlined by the public health authority
- A written offer of employment on official company letterhead from the employer
- Evidence that you meet the minimum income requirements
- English language proficiency (if applicable)
There is no requirement for applicants to have prior Canadian work experience. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their requirement for immigration support during the interview process.
If approved as a provincial nominee, applicants will be able to apply for a work permit and permanent resident status in Canada. Upon receipt of a temporary work permit, applicants will be able to start work while waiting for their permanent residency application to be approved.
